Pros and Cons of Mag Wheels
Mag wheels are wheels that are made of a metal alloy containing magnesium. This makes them a great deal lighter than most steel wheels and so they are prized for making the car steer better. Mags are said to give better handling and economy than the normal steel wheel. Mag wheels also diffuse the heat from brakes better than steel, thus preventing overheating that could impact negatively on the brake pads and other brake parts.
Another benefit of mag. wheels is aesthetic they are much brighter and often prettier than steel wheels. Those who take a great deal of pride in both their car and their driving skills often jazz up their cars by replacing the steel wheels with mag wheels. A normal steel wheel does look rather ugly which is why hubcaps were invented to give that extra panache to the car.
Only the high-end vehicles come with mag wheels as standard. But mag wheels can now be bought for all makes and models of cars, though years ago they were not available for the cheaper models. And while they may still be expensive, by researching on the Internet, you may be able to find a really good deal for mag wheels.
The main downside of mag wheels is really the cost. They are expensive to buy, replace and repair which makes those who like to watch their budget wonder why they should bother changing perfectly practical steel wheels for mags. However, if you have mag wheels, you really do need to repair damage rather than buy new ones to save your dollars. They are also slightly prone to galvanic corrosion unless preventative measures are adopted.
